Monday marked Nite\u2019s 101st birthday. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThe Lord has been very good to me and still is,\u201d Nite said Tuesday morning.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">At 101, Nite takes only a walker to keep steady, but only takes a couple of medications and is in otherwise agreeable health. One thing that hasn\u2019t gone with the years, neighbors say, is her quick wit and sense of humor. She\u2019s a dog lover, and even allows her son\u2019s chihuahua to sleep in her bed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">In celebration of the milestone, about 20 neighbors showed up to throw Nite a birthday party on Monday evening, complete with her requested grilled hamburgers and yellow cake with chocolate icing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe were wild people,\u201d Nite said with a smile. \u201cMy favorite part? Well, I\u2019d have to say it was the eating.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">Nite<a style=\"border-image: initial; border: 0px initial initial;\" name=\"display\"><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0lives with her son and daughter-in-law, Noel and Elaine Cameron, across the street from neighbors Don and Rachel Broyles. The Broyles said Nite is a beloved and valued asset to the neighborhood and they wanted her to feel special on her big day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe had lots of fun last night,\u201d Rachel Broyles said on Tuesday morning in the Cameron\u2019s living room. She joked that they had all been up past their bedtimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cThere were three candles on her cake, one-zero-one,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe might have started a fire if we had 101 candles on there,\u201d Nite said. \u201cOr they might have crushed the cake.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">When asked questions about growing up in the mid-1900s, like who her favorite president had been, Nite thought for a few moments then said she didn\u2019t pay attention to politics.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">That might be part of the reason she\u2019s lived so long. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">Her favorite vacation or most fun memory?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cI started to turn around and ask my son, but I remembered he wasn\u2019t even born then,\u201d she said amid laughter. \u201cWell, my daughter-in-law\u2019s mother and I were very good friends.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cNo, they were BFFs,\u201d Rachel Broyles interjected. \u201cThey could laugh and laugh.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe didn\u2019t have any bad words with each other,\u201d Nite continued. \u201cWe had a lot of fun. If I can\u2019t find anything to laugh about, I\u2019m going to go home.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">The two friends would make trips to Dallas, using the drive as an excuse to visit Noel and Elaine who lived there. However, it was really all about the shopping, Elaine Cameron said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">Nite said the real secret to her longevity is chocolate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cAbout a month or so ago, Nite went and saw the eye doctor, and they had a birthday party for her,\u201d Rachel said. \u201cThey had a chocolate cake and I asked how they knew she liked chocolate? Nite said, \u2018Well I think everyone knows I like chocolate.\u2019 We always have to come with a toll of chocolate to see Nite.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">Nite said her favorite kind of chocolate is Hershey\u2019s Bliss, but she\u2019s not overly picky and will pretty much eat any kind of chocolate she can get her hands on. In fact, Rachel Broyles said, there are secret stashes of chocolate all over Nite\u2019s room. Nite said she\u2019s long ignored the warnings of eating the sweet indulgence, giving in to her desire whenever she pleased.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\" style=\"font-family: Georgia, arial, verdana, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; text-align: left;\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cWe heard the pictures [of the party at the eye doctor] were going to be on Facebook, but we didn\u2019t know what page to look under,\u201d Rachel Broyles said. \u201cWell, Nite turned around and said, \u2018Why don\u2019t you look under Beautiful Lady?\u2019 And I said, \u2018Of course, why didn\u2019t I think of that?
