{"id":5371,"date":"2012-09-16T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2012-09-16T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.195.175\/index.php\/2012\/09\/16\/parents-each-donate-a-lung-to-save-their-son\/"},"modified":"2012-09-16T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2012-09-16T04:00:00","slug":"parents-each-donate-a-lung-to-save-their-son","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goodworldnews.org\/index.php\/2012\/09\/16\/parents-each-donate-a-lung-to-save-their-son\/","title":{"rendered":"Parents each donate a lung to save their son"},"content":{"rendered":"<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-5370\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.195.175\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/0d422469a7bfe49699e19d8d898530d7.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Bryan Jones\/Flickr\" class=\"caption\" title=\"The Schneider family\" width=\"634\" height=\"471\" \/>\n<p>Marius Schneider, a 12 year old in Germany, is now on a steady path to recovery thanks to his loving parents.\u00a0 Marius was suffering from <a title=\"Cystic Fibrosis - Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cystic_fibrosis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cystic fibrosis<\/a>, a genetic disease which causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs.\u00a0 His family was desperately waiting on a lung donor, but time was running out.\u00a0 Marius was breathing through a ventilator in order to survive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even though times seemed rough, Schneider was in luck.\u00a0 He has parents that were willing to do anything to get him healthy and they had the help of Germany&#8217;s top transplant surgeon, Professor Dr Axel Haverich.\u00a0 Marius&#8217; father, Lars, stated, &#8220;We were desperately waiting for an organ, waiting for a call every day&#8221;.\u00a0 When a donor could not be found, Marius&#8217; parents decided that they would each donate one of their lungs to save their child.\u00a0 Dr Gregor Warnecke, the doctor in charge of Marius&#8217; care said &#8220;The transplant was his last chance.\u00a0 The hospital would not have operated on his parents if it had not been an absolute necessity&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The surgeons at <a title=\"Hannover Medical University\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mh-hannover.de\/index.php?L=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hannover Medical University<\/a> operated on all three of them at the same time and the procedure was successful.\u00a0 &#8220;Marius was already somewhere between heaven and earth when we operated&#8221;, Professor Dr Axel Haverich stated. &#8220;He was living in a state of almost perpetual anesthesia.\u00a0 But he is a real fighter.
