{"id":5608,"date":"2013-01-07T03:30:41","date_gmt":"2013-01-07T03:30:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/192.168.195.175\/index.php\/2013\/01\/07\/ipad-instruments-help-special-needs-kids\/"},"modified":"2013-01-07T03:30:41","modified_gmt":"2013-01-07T03:30:41","slug":"ipad-instruments-help-special-needs-kids","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.goodworldnews.org\/index.php\/2013\/01\/07\/ipad-instruments-help-special-needs-kids\/","title":{"rendered":"iPad instruments help special needs kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-5607\" src=\"http:\/\/192.168.195.175\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/a28321ba8f3530fc856783a3123dd44c.jpg\" alt=\"- Image Credit: fastcompany.com\" class=\"caption\" title=\"The PS 177 Technology Band\" width=\"640\" height=\"309\" \/>\n<p>Teachers in PS 177 high school in Queens, NY were struggling to find a way to help students with learning disabilities focus and advance in school.\u00a0 Most of the kids in the special ed classes are autistic and the normal curricula did not help them.<\/p>\n<p>Adam Goldberg, a teacher at the school, decided to raise money to get a few iPads in the classroom.\u00a0 He organized them in a horseshoe and placed music software on them.\u00a0 Goldberg then asked the kids to play songs such as Bob Marley&#8217;s &#8220;One Love&#8221; and viola!\u00a0 &#8211; The results were amazing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn some cases, these are kids that were nonverbal,\u201d says Leslie Schecht from the NY Department of Education. \u201cThey really adapted and changed tremendously.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goldberg said one kid in particular who would only say a couple words, sang the entire Bob Marley&#8217;s &#8220;One Love&#8221; in front of the class &amp; then turned to his teacher and said &#8220;iPad please&#8221; \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When I saw the effect these had on the kids, I pulled together as much budget as I could and ordered 90&#8221; said Kathy Posa, the school\u2019s principal.<\/p>\n<p>The kids call their school band, the &#8220;PS 177 Technology Band&#8221;.\u00a0 They have even created <a title=\"4-2-4 Jam\" href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/album\/4-2-4-jam-single\/id572191821\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">original hits that are available on iTunes<\/a>!\u00a0 All proceeds go to their school.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Peace &amp; Love,<\/p>\n<p>Jon<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The Good World News<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Teachers in PS 177 high school in Queens, NY were struggling to find a way to help students with learning disabilities focus and advance in school.\u00a0 Most of the kids in the special ed classes are autistic and the normal curricula did not help them.
