Miami Heat fan nails half court shot to win $75,000 and hug from LeBron

  • Published in Sports

50 year old Miami Heat fan, Michael Drysch, did the unimaginable.  He was given the opportunity to shoot a half court shot at the game.....and nailed it!  Michael got to go home with $75,000 cash and a very memorable bear hug from "King James" himself.

“That was awesome, man,” LeBron James said in an ESPN interview. “I was excited for him. When he wound up like that, I was like, ‘Oh no, there’s no way.’ And then when I saw it in the air, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s got a chance.’ I was happy to be a part of that.”

“It’s a great way to meet somebody like that,” Michael Drysch said. “I had no idea he was coming over to me like that. That was amazing. What a great feeling to experience something like this.”

You have to check out the amazing video here.  You can feel the excitement from the crowd!

Miami Marlins volunteer in the community

  • Published in Sports

The Miami Marlins are hitting home runs in the community - Yes I know that is such a cliche statement, but I had to do it :)  When the Marlins broke ground on their new park in Miami, Florida, they created a Marlins Ayudan (Spanish for "help") team to do work in the community.

This Ayudan team, also called the "blue shirts" is working wonders in the community.  In 2012, they donated over $1.2 million and have clocked in over 5,000 hours in community service!!!  Over they years, they estimate that 100,000 people have been helped by the program.

In October 2012, over 200 members of the Marlins staff went to Miami Edison Middle School to give an entire day of service which included painting, gardening, and working with the kids.  “Our hope is that the kids realize the importance of education and learning lessons.”, said Marlins president David Samson.

They even donated $10,000 to the school's Red Raiders Room which is a collection of games and computers that students can use if they are doing well.  The kids were of course ecstatic :)

Keep up the good work and spreading the Good News!!

Charlotte Bobcats and Miami Heat duke it out in Raleigh

  • Published in Sports

Raleigh erupted on Tuesday night when the Charlotte Bobcats and Miami Heat came to town!  The Good World News team was there to see the action along with 18,000 screaming fans.  There were also several celebrities that attended including Coach K and the Beige Brothers.

It was wonderful that the NBA teams went to Raleigh's PNC Arena instead of playing at the Bobcats' regular home in Charlotte.  The place was packed and full of energy.  One kid was almost in tears because he was so close to LeBron.

This was definitely a night to remember in Raleigh, NC.  The home arena of the Hurricanes and NC State was more than happy to host the two NBA teams for the special event.

Thanks for coming to town!!

Peace & Love,

Jon
