NYPD Officer Lawrence DePrimo has touched the world with a simple act of kindness. It was a cold November evening in NYC. Officer DePrimo was on duty when he saw a homeless man sitting in front of the Sketchers store in Times Square. The man didn’t have any shoes or socks.

There are so many homeless people in NYC so you may ask what made this homeless man stand out to Officer DePrimo. “To look down at this gentleman’s feet and see that he had no socks. And when he told me he never had a pair of shoes. …My heart went out to him.” Officer Lawrence DePrimo stated.

DePrimo ran into the Sketchers store and purchased socks and size 12 boots for the man. His good deed didn’t stop there. Officer DePrimo then knelt down to help the man put on the socks and boots.

Unbeknownst to the officer, a tourist snapped a photo of the kind act and posted it online. The tourist was Jennifer Foster of Florence, AZ. She is the manager of the Pinal County Sheriff’s public safety communications center. “I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life. I did not get the officer’s name,” Foster said in a message to the NYPD. “It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost on myself or any of the Arizona law enforcement officials with whom this story has been shared.”

Foster posted the photo online and it went viral. It amassed over 530,000 likes on Facebook and DePrimo was instantly an internet sensation.

Great job Officer DePrimo. You have not only helped one man, you have inspired thousands around the world!
